In 2012, Elaine Blyden Hutchinson was diagnosed with one of the most dangerous form of breast cancer known as, “Triple Negative.” After coming to terms with this devastating news, she joined forces with loyal family and friends, vowing to fight this battle. Her motto became, “it takes and army to fight a cancer battle.” After a successful mastectomy, reconstruction, 5 months of chemotherapy, and most importantly, the presence of God in her life, this threatening disease was defeated. During her journey to recovery, Elaine wrote an impactful and soul searching play entitled, “The View From the Tunnel“, loosely based on her experience, as a way of paying forward and helping others also diagnosed with cancer.
Elaine is a member of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden. She is dedicated to bringing the word of God to life through drama. She believes that “sight and sound” impacts lives and Divine Revelation Entertainment and Education Services, Inc., a non-profit corporation, has proven just that. Her productions incorporates drama, dance, and music. She believes that her plays should speak into lives in such a way that viewers would be captivated as they “see” and “hear” God’s words dramatically displayed and delivered in today’s language and culture. This method of delivery, she believes, allows God’s words to be more easily heard and instilled in the hearts and minds of theater goers, and through the Holy Spirit, the Word can take root and inspire positive changes.
Elaine is a graduate of Brooklyn College, New York, where she minored in Theatrical Arts. Throughout her college years, she was aware of her calling to go into the Arts, specifically acting and writing, but became disenchanted with the entertainment arena. She settled into banking, but was never completely satisfied as a banker. Her first love, the theater, haunted her until she relented and returned to it in 1998.
Elaine lives her life in the conviction of Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This belief, tethered to the great commission of Mark 16:15, forms the foundation for the ministry. Elaine’s hope and Divine Revelation’s goal, are to spread the messages of salvation and submission to God, and to provide the knowledge that God’s will is to bring about the best for our lives, if we believe. Elaine lives by the words of her favorite verse, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called unto His purpose” (Romans 8:28), and wants others to have the hope, comfort and encouragement embodied in these words.
